Tundra Winds’  Aspen Daisy

Today we lost our beloved, beautiful Aspen.

Aspen was born in Colorado on June 18th 2001 in the famous Tundra Winds’ kennel. We flew her home just an few days before 9/11. Her coming home with us will always be connected to what happened on that day.

Aspen was the first puppy not impressed by Chanouka’s houserules and that is how she lived her life. With her floppy ear and typically Jenny eyes (Jenny was her greatgrandmother), she lived in her own special world.

She screamed her head off first time in Sweden where she ran a few miles in the team and had to be placed in the sled bag to give her some rest. She screamed so hard that Sterre stopped running.

When things were different from the daily routine, she protested with loud barking and wouldn’t stop until things went back to normal.

She was a happy dog in the pack, always wagging her tail. And when that tail stops wagging, you have to make a decision.

Aspen always tried to find a way to discover the world on her own. Not even a fenced dog park kept her from escaping, she just jumped into the water … ;).

So we thought it would be very appropriate to give her a song of Ilse DeLange: The Great Escape. Aspen finally was able to make that great escape.

Be happy, sweetie, Ezrah, Robber, Berber, Chanouk, Lady, Baruff and Misty are waiting for you. And make sure you are on that team waiting for us, when St Peter calls our names.

The leaves will fall again
The wind comes crawling in
The rain with all its sin
Captures me again
The words it threw my way
Filled my soul with pain
My anger into space
Almost found its way again
Questions to embrace
Feelings that you’ll face
In this holy land
A desert made of quicksand
Streets that lead you there
Places of your fear
Some force, pulls you in
The shadow world

About the time I made the great escape
I was falling, falling, falling from heaven
In every picture that I drew, I saw you
Falling, falling, falling from heaven

From an empty face
The smile wiped away
Eyes that never see
Blind the deepest me
Act a small charade
Words you can’t explain
Silence louder than the doubt
Lingers in the sound

By the time I made the great escape
I was falling, falling, falling from heaven
In every picture that I drew, I saw you
Falling, falling, falling from heaven

I got down on my knees and prayed
I was calling, calling, calling to heaven
Just in time I made the great escape
I was falling, falling, falling from heaven

If you just talk to me
If you just look at me
We’ll be all right

By the time I made the great escape
I was falling, falling, falling from heaven
In every picture that I drew, I saw you
Falling, falling, falling from heaven

I got down on my knees and prayed
I was calling, calling, calling to heaven
Just in time I made the great escape
I was falling, falling, falling from heaven

Run free and forever, Aspen … we will meet again
