Robaika

Only 5 months after we lost Ezrah, we lost Robber too. She was very, very old, but put up a fight until the end. The last year was difficult and I picked up the phone to call the vet many times. But last Tuesday I finally had to make the call.
Arno came to our place, Will was at home, I had Sterre on my lab almost the whole time. And then she was gone. This grand old lady. It is so quiet. No dog to bark us awake at 5 AM …..

Especially for Robber: Somewhere only we know from Keane

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete

Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I’m getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in
I’m getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I’ve been dreaming of?

Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I’m getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in
I’m getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute why don’t we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don’t we go
Somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know?

Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I’m getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you’re gonna let me in
I’m getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute why don’t we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don’t we go?
So why don’t we go?

Ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah

This could be the end of everything
So why don’t we go
Somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know?

Here is Robber’s story:

Robber came to live with us in the Autumm of 1996, she was 5 years old and had never been running in a sleddogteam. Within a few weeks she ran her first pulkrace with Chanouk in Diever, in the North of the Netherlands.

Although Robber is not from workinglines, she is a very good in the team. She has run lead AND singlelead. She is always bossing around the team.

At home she is more interested in me than in the other dogs, unless they make too much noise ……. She is very much in catching cats and ducks and birds ….. Oh, well perhaps she had been a huntingdog in former live.

It was in 1998 that Robber suffered from a very bad pyometria. She needed surgery and untill now we think that this ruined her. She got a really bad coat and has slown down in speed. It looked like that her condition was getting worse and worse and we took her to the vet in the Summer of 2000. But all test were fine. No kidneyproblems, no diabetics. We decided to have her coat cut of. And all of a sudden the good old Robber came back. She is doing fine and we even think that she will be running in the team again. Her thick vilten coat got her so hot and she just couldn’t get rid of her bodyheat. And that made her bad and ill. Can you imagine wearing 2 furcoats in warm weather and no change to take them off?

Robber went to the snow with us for the first time in January 1997. She was over the moon and had a great time.

Robber was the Mum of our boy Berber and an older sister of Chanouk.
